GAME STORYLINES
Wayne State carries a four-game conference winning streak into its game against the Pioneers. WSU has scored at least 80 points in all of its previous league matchups this season.
The Warriors are 32-10 in GLIAC competition since the beginning of the 2010-11 season. WSU won its first five conference games last season, ultimately finishing 14-5 in league play.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Malone defeated WSU in its only previous meeting, winning a 86-68 contest in 1977. This is the first league matchup between the two schools. Malone joined the GLIAC for the 2012-13 season.
SCOUTING MALONE
The Pioneers are riding a four-game winning streak, all of the victories coming against GLIAC opponents. Malone is 4-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall. MU also has a 4-1 mark on its home court.
Malone has reached the 85-point mark four times this season, including scoring 90 points in a win at Lake Superior and 85 points vs. Saginaw Valley.
Isiah Elliott is the team's leading scorer at 18.8 points per game. He has led the Pioneers in scoring the last five games and six of eight this season. Elliott is also the leader in rebounds, assists and steals.
The Pioneers also have three players that have made 13 three-pointers or more. Christian Graves leads the team with 18 three-pointers and is sinking 48.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors dropped their second game of the season, falling 82-78 to No. 19 Drury. The loss snapped WSU's five-game winning streak. Both of WSU's losses this season are to ranked opponents.
Mike Hollingsworth knocked down 5-of-7 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points for the Warriors, who led 44-37 at halftime.
Cole Prophet added 19 points and four assists and
Chene Phillips tallied 13 points and four steals for Wayne State.
Ian Larkin also had four blocked shots in the loss. WSU sank 10-of-21 three-pointers for the contest.
The Warriors shot 8-of-15 from the free throw line in the second half, while Drury converted 11-of-15 free throw opportunities. Wayne State was edged in rebounding (35-31) and field goal percentage (50.0-46.4).
ON THE BENCH
David Greer is currently in his 12th season as men's basketball head coach at WSU. Greer has a 172-140 record and is the fifth-longest tenured head coach in WSU men's basketball history.
Tim Walker is in his fourth season as head coach of the men's basketball team at Malone. Walker currently has a 49-46 record as a Pioneer.
CONFERENCE LEADERS
Phillips is sixth in the GLIAC in scoring at 18.1 points per game. Phillips also ranks fourth in assists per game (4.3) and steals per game (2.0). Hollingsworth is third in the conference in shooting percentage, making 60.6 percent of his shots. Larkin is tied for first in the league with 2.1 blocked shots per game.
As a team, Wayne State is second in scoring offense (78.1 points per game) in the GLIAC.
UP NEXT
Following its road matchup at Malone, the Warriors are off until 2013. WSU starts the new year with four straight home contests, starting Jan. 3 vs. Hillsdale.
Wayne State doesn't have another road game until a Jan. 17 trip to Michigan Tech, followed two days later with a matchup at Northern Michigan.
