Wednesday's game against Ashland will be broadcast on Comcast/Xfinity channel 900. Ryan Ermanni (play-by-play), Rod Beard (color commentator) and Joe Abramson (sideline reporter) will be calling the action.
WEEK 3 STORYLINES
The Warriors enter their contest against Ashland riding a three-game winning streak. WSU hasn't lost since a season-opening 79-65 setback at No. 4 Bellarmine.
Wayne State opened its GLIAC slate with two conference wins on the road. WSU scored 83 points or more in each game and is tied for the conference lead after two games with 169 points scored.
Junior guard
Mike Hollingsworth started his first two games of the season against Tiffin and Ohio Dominican, scoring 13 and 25 points, respectively.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Wayne State is 28-19 in the all-time series against Ashland, including a 15-7 mark under head coach
David Greer. The Warriors have won six of their last seven and last three contests at home against Ashland.
WSU is 4-0 all-time vs. Lake Erie. The Warriors have won each game against LEC by more than eight points, including a 92-57 victory in Detroit on Jan. 28, 2012.
SCOUTING ASHLAND
The Eagles (2-2) split their conference openers (both at home), falling 66-57 to Grand Valley before topping Ferris State, 71-49. Ashland lost its only other game on the road, losing 71-68 to Urbana (Ohio).
Evan Yates has averaged a double-double at 18.0 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game to lead Ashland. He is shooting 58.5 percent from the field.
Paul Honigford is the only other player in double figures for the Eagles, averaging 10.5 points per game. He is also the leader in three-pointers, connecting on 10 through four games for AU.
As a team, Ashland is shooting 46.8 percent, while limiting opponents to a 38.5 shooting clip. The Eagles are also shooting 60.8 percent from the free throw line and 37.3 percent on three-pointers.
SCOUTING LAKE ERIE
The Storm (3-2) fell in its conference openers, dropping a 80-74 contest to Ferris State and 68-48 against Grand Valley. Lake Erie's only game on the road this season was a 92-80 win over Notre Dame (Ohio).
Lake Erie has eclipsed the 80 point mark in all three of its non-conference games this season. All three of those games were wins.
Jamil Dudley leads a balanced Storm scoring attack, averaging 14.6 points per game. Riley Thomas (13.0 ppg), Tom Parker (12.6 ppg) and Rich Austin (12.4 ppg) are three other starters who average in double figures.
Austin leads the team in rebouning at 7.2 rebounds per game and Parker leads the team in assists with 19.
The Storm are shooting 46.4 percent as a team. Thomas and Riley each have made 11 three-pointers.
WEEKLY ACCOLADES
Junior guard
Chene Phillips was selected as the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on Dec. 3. Phillips averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in road victories over Tiffin and ODU. Against TU, Phillips knocked down 13-of-14 free throws and scored a career-high 29 points.
It's Phillips' first career GLIAC weekly honor. For the season, Phillips leads the Warriors in scoring (22.0 ppg) and is second on the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg).
HOME COOKING
Wednesday's matchup against Ashland is Wayne State's first conference home game of the season. The Warriors won their only other home game this season, a 70-69 thriller over Lewis on Nov. 19. WSU won 79-43 over Saginaw Valley in its 2011-12 home GLIAC opener.
ON THE BENCH
David Greer is currently in his 12th season as head coach of men's basketball at WSU. Greer is 170-139 and is the fifth-longest tenured head coach in WSU history.
John Ellenwood is 43-42 in his fourth season as head coach at Ashland.
Cliff Hunt has compiled a 103-91 record and is in his eighth season at the helm of Lake Erie.
