DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (9-4 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) won its second game in a row after an overtime loss to Findlay last Saturday. The Warriors held off a late rally by Saginaw Valley State (6-7 overall, 4-5 GLIAC) to claim a 63-48 triumph to close out a six-game homestand that saw the Green and Gold go 5-1.

Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) and
Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill) each had 15 points to lead WSU as coach
Carrie Lohr's squad presented a balanced attack offensively to pull away early in Saturday's affair. Cochran was key early on as she used her size to vault the Warriors out to a fast 13-6 lead after five minutes of play. The ensuing four minutes of play resulted in an 8-2 run by the home team as the lead swelled to 21-8.
After taking a 35-18 advantage into the break the Warriors saw the lead slip away in the second half. Saginaw Valley finally found a way to break the press and get into the paint as they clawed back and cut the deficit to eight with just under four minutes to play. A crucial three pointer by
Imari Redfield (Detroit, Mich. / Country Day) on a broken offensive possession at the 2:39 mark was the final straw however and the WSU lead ran back to 15 before the final horn.
Redfield finished with seven points and five rebounds while senior
Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) chipped in seven points of her own to go along with seven rebounds. The Warrior bench outscored SVSU 28-12 in the game and used 13 takeaways to create 13 points off turnovers.
The Warriors head to Michigan Tech (9-5 overall, 7-3 GLIAC) for a Thursday contest vs. the Huskies before finishing the U.P. portion of the road trip at Northern Michigan on Saturday.
