GAME STORYLINES
The Warriors wrap up a three-game road trip Thursday at Ferris State, before hosting Grand Valley in a televised home game on Saturday. Saturday's contest will be broadcast live on Xfinity channel 900.
WSU has won three out of its last four games and are third in the GLIAC North Division.
SERIES HISTORY
The Warriors are 2-2 in their last four meetings with the Bulldogs. Wayne State won its last meeting on the road against FSU, winning 83-74 on Feb. 17, 2011. WSU is 11-20 in meetings played at Ferris State and 26-34 in the all-time series, which began in 1976.
Wayne State has a six-game losing streak against the Lakers, including dropping its last three games at home against GVSU. WSU's last victory against Grand Valley came on Feb. 16, 2008, with a 71-55 win in Detroit. The Warriors are 15-15 all-time at home against the Lakers.
SCOUTING FERRIS STATE
The Bulldogs went 1-1 last weekend, falling 70-46 at Northwood on Jan. 17, before picking up a 74-71 win on Jan. 19 at Lake Superior State.
Junior guard Sarah DeShone leads Ferris State in scoring at 18.6 points per game. DeShone and fellow junior guard Ashley Rando, each have the most triples made (22) on the team.
Rando is second on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game and leads the Bulldogs with 39 steals. Sophomore forward Kara Hess is the leading rebounder at 6.4 rebounds per game.
Sophomore center Hannah Hoffman is the leader in blocked shots (25) and is second on the squad in rebounding (5.9 rpg). Senior Kylie Muntz has started 13 games for FSU.
SCOUTING GRAND VALLEY
The Lakers had a three-game winning streak snapped in its most recent contest, a 74-65 loss on Jan. 19 at home to Northwood.
Senior Briuana Taylor led Grand Valley in scoring for the seventh straight game against NU, notching 20 points in the defeat. Taylor leads GVSU at 15.9 points per game. She's also the Laker leader in steals (34), assists (46) and rebounds per game (6.9).
Senior Lauren Stodola is second on the team at 9.0 ppg. Senior Alex Stelfox has started all 16 games and is third on the team in scoring (8.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.7 rpg). Senior Kellie Watson leads GVSU with 23 triples made.
LAST WEEK
The Warriors made their longest road trip of the season and split a pair of contests, losing 77-56 at Michigan Tech on Jan. 17 before rebounding with a 63-59 win at Northern Michigan on Jan. 19.
The Huskies scored 10 of the last 12 points in the first half to take a 36-27 lead at intermission. WSU couldn't rebound on the road as MTU maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the contest.
Juanita Cochran notched her second double-double of the season, tallying 14 points and 12 rebounds for WSU.
Kayla Bridges recorded a career-high 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting off the bench.
Talisha Bridges added 12 points, three assists and three steals for the Warriors.
Wayne State took the lead for good, 46-44, on a
Kayla Bridges' jumper with 5:36 left against Northern Michigan. NMU pulled to within one point three different occassions in the final minutes, but WSU made its free throws down the stretch. Freshmen
Kristen Long and
Brittany Streetman each went 2-for-2 from the line in the final 34 seconds to help clinch the victory.
Cochran scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Kayla Bridges pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds and
Talisha Bridges notched 12 points, her 11th straight game scoring in double figures for WSU.
ON THE BENCH
Carrie Lohr is in her second season as head coach of the WSU women's basketball program. Lohr has a 22-19 record in her Warrior coaching career.
Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate has started her inaugural season at Ferris State with a 10-5 record.
Janel Burgess is in her sixth season as head coach at GVSU. She has a 96-60 overall record.
REBOUND WARRIORS
The Warriors lead the GLIAC in rebounding at 46.3 rebounds per game. WSU also leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game (18.7) and are 10-3 when out-rebounding its opponent.
