ASHLAND, Ohio --
The Wayne State University men's basketball program (5-2, 3-1 GLIAC) took its spotless league record on the road Wednesday night at Ashland (3-4, 1-3 GLIAC). The Eagles went 10-3 inside Kates Gymnasium last season and proved able to protect its home court again during the 49th meeting between the two programs with a 67-66 overtime victory.

Bryan Coleman (Southfield, Mich. / Lathrup) hit a clutch three-pointer with 21 seconds left in the extra stanza to put the Warriors up 66-65. However, two Ashland free throws put the Eagles up one with seven seconds to play. Chene Phillips (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) was unable to connect on a contested jumper to win the game.

Ashland led the majority of the first half and held a 28-26 advantage at halftime. Deon Disumuke (Detroit, Mich. / Pershing) trimmed the deficit to two with a jumper right before the buzzer. The Eagles led by as many as seven during the first 20 minutes.

The home lead grew to nine points at the 17-minute mark of the second half. However, WSU would storm back to tie the game at 40-40 with 10:44 to play powered by a 6-0 run. Gerald Williams-Taylor (Flint, Mich. / Northern) gave the Green & Gold its first lead since the 5:46 mark of the first half with a lay-up to give WSU a 44-42 advantage.

The Warriors led by as many as four in the second half but were unable to pull out a win in the allotted 40 minutes. With 57 seconds left in regulation, Williams-Taylor gave WSU a 55-53 lead with another driving lay-up. A foul gave Ashland's leading scorer the opportunity to tie the game, and he did just that with 28 seconds to play.

Phillips missed a jumper as time expired in regulation to send the game to WSU's first overtime game of the season. The Warriors were 1-2 last season in overtime contests.

Coleman led the way for WSU with 21 points including three triples. Phillips finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Four Eagles scored in double-digits led by Evans' 17 points.

WSU will begin the new year in Detroit hosting Walsh at 7:30 PM on Jan. 2 and Malone at 3 PM on Jan. 4 inside the Matthaei Center.
