Midland, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's basketball team (14-5 overall, 12-3 GLIAC) remained in first place in the GLIAC North Division with a 67-65 overtime triumph Thursday evening at Northwood University (10-12 overall, 8-8 GLIAC).

After trailing by 10 points (40-30) with just over 15 minutes remaining in the second half, the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to pull within two.  The comeback from the 10-point deficit was the largest this season by WSU in a victory.

Following a pair of Kaitlin Susan buckets, senior center Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) tallied six consecutive WSU points to cut the deficit to one (46-45) at the mid-point of the second half.

Senior Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) notched a steal that led to a basket by freshman guard Brittany Streetman (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) giving Wayne State its first lead since 20-18.

Less than a minute later, Streetman connected from beyond the arc giving WSU a 50-47 advantage.  The Warriors held just a one possession lead (one to three points) for four minutes until a pair of free throws by freshman forward Stephanie Lock (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) pushed the lead to five (58-53).

Northwood responded with a 9-2 run over the next 4:15 to grab a 62-60 lead with less than a minute left in regulation.  After a Talisha Bridges lay-up with 30 seconds remaining knotted the game at 62, NU had a chance to win the final four seconds but Aleigha Wylie missed two foul shots after grabbing an offensive rebound.

Neither team scored for the first 80 seconds of overtime, before Cochran split a pair from the charity stripe.  Thirty seconds later Talisha Bridges made one-of-two free throws giving the Warriors a two-point lead (64-62).   Cochran recorded a steal on the defensive end then tallied a lay-up at the offensive end pushing the advantage to four (66-62) with just over two minutes left in the extra session.

NU's Rachel Church drained a triple try on the ensuing possession, the neither team could score for 80 seconds until Talisha Bridges again split a pair from the foul line with 24 seconds left.  A jumper by Church in the final seconds did not fall and Wayne State improved to 6-1 on the road in league play.

Cochran had her third double-double of the year with game-high totals of 21 points and 15 rebounds.  The 15 boards equals a season-best for a WSU player.  Talisha Bridges contributed 10 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for her third double-double of the campaign, while Streetman chipped in with 12 points.

Church led four Timberwolves in double figures with 16 points.

The Warriors had a 50-32 edge in rebounding including 21 offensive boards to Northwood's 22 defensive rebounds.

Wayne State will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Saginaw Valley.
