Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. -- Despite dropping a two-point contest, 72-70, at Lake Superior State University (14-12 overall, 11-11 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon, the Wayne State University men's basketball squad (17-8 overall, 16-6 GLIAC) still earned a share of the GLIAC regular-season title along with the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league tournament.
The Warriors will host eighth-seeded Lake Superior at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in a GLIAC quarterfinal contest.
WSU took an early 2-0 lead, but the Lakers responded with a 9-0 run as the Warriors went over three minutes without a point.
Each team scored seven points over the next four minutes, until a jumper by senior guard
Cole Prophet (Sandusky, Ohio) cut the deficit to three at 16-13 with just under 12 minutes left. A dunk by senior
Ian Larkin (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) on the ensuing possession made it a two-point game at 17-15.

Mike Hollingsworth (Utica, Mich.).
A 9-2 LSSU run increased its lead to eight (51-43), then a 6-4 spurt by the Lakers made it a 10-point contest at 57-47 with just under 12 minutes left.
Lake Superior led by 11 (65-54) before a 10-3 Warrior run cut the deficit to four (68-64) with 2:36 left. A triple by LSSU's Alex Williams with 5:02 remaining was the last made field goal for the hosts.

Chene Phillips (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) at the buzzer was off the mark.
Prophet led WSU with 16 points and five assists, , while Larkin added 14 points.
