Ashland, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's basketball team (20-8 overall) suffered a 67-60 setback to the University of Findlay (24-4 overall) Saturday afternoon in a GLIAC semifinal contest at Ashland.

The Warriors will await Sunday evening's NCAA selection show (10 p.m. on NCAA.com) to learn if they have qualified for the NCAA tournament for the second time in school history.

The first half was back-and-forth with four lead changes and four tied scores. WSU jumped out to an 8-3 advantage in the first 2:20 ona triple by junior guard Lena Thomas (Bloomfield Twp., Mich. / Bloomfield Hills Andover) along with a conventional three-point play and a lay-up by senior center Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill).

WSU maintained its lead over the next few minutes until a 6-0 run by the Oilers put UF ahead 16-12 near the mid-point of the first half. The Warriors went nearly four minutes without a point until a jumper by freshman forward Stephanie Lock (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland ) ignited a 9-1 Wayne State run which put the Warriors in front 21-17. A triple by junior Imari Redfield (Detroit, Mich. / Country Day) at the 3:45 mark was WSU's last field goal before intermission.

Findlay concluded the opening 20 minutes on an 11-3 run to take a 28-24 lead at halftime. Both teams made nine field goals in the first half but UF was 7-of-12 from the foul line compared to 4-of-4 for WSU.

Wayne State outscored Findlay 8-3 in the first 2:30 of the second half to take a 32-31 lead. Cochran's third basket after intermission increased the margin to three (34-31), and freshman Kristen Long (Corunna, Mich. / Durand) added a three-pointers giving the Warriors their largest lead of the game at 37-31 with 13:34 remaining.

There was an eight minute stretch in the second half (17:35-9:30) that WSU never trailed until a triple by UF's Karli Beasley put the Oilers in front 44-43 at the 9:28 mark. Following a Warrior turnover, Beasley scored on a fast break.

WSU cut the deficit to two (46-44) as Cochran split a pair from the foul line, but Findlay answered with a 13-7 run over the next five minutes increasing its lead to eight (59-51) with 2:37 left.

The Warriors responded with a 7-2 run making it a 61-58 contest in the final 40 seconds, but a pair of fast break lay-ups by the Oilers psuhed the lead to seven.

Cochran led WSU with 20 points and 14 rebounds while also blocking five shots. Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) was the only other Warrior in double figures with 13 points. She also dished out a game-best six assists.

After shooting 35 percent in the first half, Wayne State shot 47 percent (15-of-32) in the second half, but 13 turnovers in each half led to a 31-7 advantage in points off turnovers for the Oilers.

Kayla Brown led Findlay with a game-high 23 points which included 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Beasley added 12 points off the UF bench.

Findlay was 17-of-23 from the charity stripe, while WSU was 8-of-14, including 4-of-9 after intermission.
