Wayne State University head women's basketball coach
Carrie Lohr has announced the addition of
Jackie Jones to the Warrior program. Jones, a transfer from Chicago State, will be eligible to play in the 2013-14 season.
Jones, a 5-4 guard, will be a junior this fall at WSU.
Last season, she started all 30 games for the Cougars (the only player to start every game) playing in over 1,000 minutes. Jones averaged 8.0 points per game, along with 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. She totaled 241 points, 122 assists and 64 steals during the 2012-13 campaign.
"We are very lucky that Jackie has decided to come home to Detroit to continue her academic and athletic career," commented Lohr. "She is a local high school standout that will now have a chance to play in front of her family and friends and give back to the community that she grew up in. Jackie has the potential to impact our program right away."
Jones was named to the 2012-13 All-Great West Conference Honorable Mention squad. She led the league in assists (5.4 per game) and steals (2.4 per game) during conference play. Her 73.3 percent free throw percentage was fourth in the GWC. Jones scored a career-high 22 points with five assists at Missouri earlier this season. She set a career high in assists with 11 on Feb. 23 against Utah Valley. She was named a CSU Scholar-Athlete in February for her work in the classroom.
In her freshman year at CSU, Jones was named a Cougar Scholar Athlete. She played in 29 contests with 16 starts, while finishing second on the squad with 79 assists. Jones also recorded 42 steals in 652 minutes of action. Jones had a game-high six assists and five rebounds vs. Trinity International (Jan. 5) then totaled five rebounds and a game-high five assists at Texas Pan-American (Jan. 19). She dished out seven assists vs. Utah Valley (Jan. 26) before notching eight points and a team-high six rebounds vs. North Dakota (Jan. 28). Jones contributed five assists and five rebounds vs. Indiana Northwest (Feb. 1) prior to scoring a team-high 12 points at Utah Valley (Feb. 11). She recorded a game-high six assists vs. Houston Baptist (Feb. 16) then totaled a team-high five assists and 11 points at NJIT (Mar. 3). In the final game of the year, she recorded team-high totals of 17 points and four rebounds vs. Texas Pan-American (Mar. 8).
