Men's Basketball Falls By Seven At Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio
-- The Wayne State University men's basketball squad suffered a 72-65 setback at the University of Findlay Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 6-5 overall and conclude play against the GLIAC South Division with a 4-4 mark. The Oilers are 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the GLIAC.

After the contest featured eight ties and eight lead changes in the first half, there was just one lead change in the final 20 minutes.

Both teams shot under 40 percent in the first half with the Warriors holding a 34-33 advantage at intermission thanks to 14 points by senior Bryan Coleman (Southfield, Mich. / Lathrup) on 6-of-10 field goals including two triples.

The margin could have been higher but WSU only scored two points in the final 2:58 on a pair of free throws by senior Jamar Ragland (Detroit, Mich. / Loyola).  On edge for Findlay was in free throw attempts (13 to 6) at halftime, as Wayne State was whistled for 11 fouls compared to eight on Findlay.

Oiler Jake Heagen connected from beyond the arc for the first points after halftime putting the hosts in front 36-34 and starting a 16-4 spurt over the first eight minutes of the second half.

Trailing 49-38 with just under 12 minutes remaining, Wayne State was not able to get closer than seven points until 46.7 seconds were left when Ragland scored from down low off a feed by senior Deon Dismuke (Detroit, Mich. / Pershing).

In a span of over 7:30, from the 9:10 mark until a triple by Coleman with 1:25 remaining, Wayne State only made one field goal.  In the first 11 minutes of the second half, the Warriors were whistled for five fouls while Findlay did not commit foul according to the officials.  With just over three minutes to go in the contest, the second half fouls were nine on WSU and two on Findlay and the Warriors were still within seven points (59-52).

WSU cut the deficit to five on three occasions in the final minute but could not get any closer.

Coleman led the Warriors with 25 points with Ragland adding 10 points. Ragland and senior Gerald Williams-Taylor (Flint, Mich. / Northern) tied for game-high rebounding honors with nine apiece.

Findlay's Greg Kahlig led all scorers with 27 points. Alphonso Baity contributed 14 points, while Heagen added 13 points.

The Warriors will play game three of their four-game road trip Thursday at Northwood.
