FINDLAY, Ohio -- Twenty (20) members of the Wayne State University women's indoor track team competed in the Oiler Open hosted by the University of Findlay. The two-day event was the first competition of the indoor season for the Warriors.
WSU had five individual champions plus a relay, as well as setting six school records to start the program's third season.
In the lone event on Friday, junior
Erika Perry (Romeo, Mich.) led Wayne State with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw (14.52m).
In the 60m prelims on Saturday, sophomore
Kierra Johnson (Flint, Mich. / Brandon) eclipsed the school record in the prelims with a time of 7.89. She finished second in the finals in a time of 7.92. Sophomore
Imani Bush (Canton, Ohio / South) was third (8.03), while sophomore
Kalen Glover (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) tied-for-seventh.
Johnson was WSU's top finisher in the 200m with a third-place time of 26.62.
Bush broke the school record in the 300m with a winning time of 42.41. Sophomore
Christina Kollien (Alpena, Mich.) set two personal bests at the meet in the 60m (8.25) and 300m (44.95).
Sophomore
Leah Ellis (Battle Creek, Mich. / Central) won the 600m race in a school record time of 1:41.69.
Dazmonique Carr (Lawnside, N.J. / Haddon Heights), a sophomore, claimed first place in the 800m event with a time of 2:25.25, while senior
Alyssa Auth (Eastpointe, Mich. / East Detroit) won the 3,000m race with a time of 11:25.21.
Freshman
Karrington Seals (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) was WSU's top finisher in the 60m hurdles placing third in a time of 9.147. Glover ran a 9.14 in the prelims.
Wayne State's 4x400m relay quartet of Carr, Bush,
Payton Julian (Streetsboro, Ohio) and Ellis took home first place with a time of 4:05.06.
Freshman
Jessie Kluz (Sterling Heights, Mich.) had a "B" provisional height in the high jump with a school record mark of 5-05.75 (1.67m) to place second.
In the long jump another school record to a Warrior newcomer as freshman
Rachel Kloski (Warren, Mich. / Fraser) finished second at 5.13m (16-10.00).
Redshirt freshman
Jewel Wilson (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) won the triple jump event with a school record distance of 37-07.75 (11.47m).
Sophomore
Elizabeth Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) bested the school mark in the shot put with a throw of 40-10.25 (12.45m).
The track team will be idle for exams with the next competition slated for Jan. 10 at the Hillsdale Winter Opener.
