Imari Redfield earned the award on Jan. 6, with Brown receiving it a week later on Jan. 13.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wayne State University women's basketball team claimed an 81-71 victory at Lake Superior State University.
The Warriors won for the 16th time in the past 17 contests this season overcoming a slow start which saw the Lakers take a 15-3 lead 4:30 into the contest behind Stephanie Fisher's 13 points. Fisher drained three triples on her first three attempts of the game.
A 13-5 run by WSU over a five-minute period cut the LSSU lead to two at 20-18 at the second media timeout. The next 4:30 was even with each team scoring six points.
Shareta Brown led a late first half scoring spree recording 13 consecutive Warrior points over the final 3:30 to give Wayne State a 39-33 advantage at intermission. Brown had her 11th double-double of the season at halftime with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Fisher ended the opening 20 minutes with 14 points.
WSU began the second half where it left off outscoring the host Lakers 13-5 in the first five minutes to increase its lead to 14 (52-38).
Imari Redfield tallied Wayne State's first eight points to start the second half.
LSSU was able to get within two possessions (six points) a couple of times, but the Warriors closed out the victory thanks to 12 second half points by
Jackie Jones.
Brown finished with a game-high 25 points along with 19 rebounds, while Redfield added 14 points and Jones contributed 13 points.
Kristen Long chipped in with nine points and four assists. The 19 rebounds by Brown was the most by a Warrior since
Juanita Cochran grabbed 23 boards at Saint Joseph's on Dec. 10, 2011. It was also her 11th double-double of the campaign.
COACH LOHR
Carrie Lohr, who was named the 12th head coach in the history of women's basketball at WSU on May 11, 2011, is in her third season guiding the Warrior program. She was voted the 2012-13 GLIAC Coach of the Year by her peers after leading Wayne State to a share of the GLIAC North Division regular-season title, the first for the WSU women's basketball program since the 1980-81 season. Lohr also guided the Warriors to their first NCAA tournament victory (63-58 over Findlay) as well as the school's inaugural appearance in the NCAA Regional Championship game.
