DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team hosted Eastern Michigan University in its last regular dual meet of the season. The Warriors fell to the Eagles, a Division I opponent, 226-76.
The seniors were recognized during the event for their participation in the program with this being the final home meet of the season.
Senior Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:32.07 and second in the 200 butterfly (2:04.90) earning NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times for both. Novichenko also took second in the 200 IM (2:14.33)
Junior Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich. / Traverse City West) took second in the 100 backstroke (59.28)
Senior Gloria Martinez Perez (Merida, Spain) placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:57.38) and sophomore Emily Heitchue (Royal Oak, Mich.) finished third in the 100 freestyle (54.59)
Sophomore Emily Maraskine (Midland, Mich. / Dow) took third in the 50 freestyle (24.96) and in the 200 backstroke (2:09.99).
Junior Manuela Ferreira (Ibague, Colombia) was the first Warrior to touch in the 100 breaststroke earning fifth place (1:07.71).
In diving, sophomore Elizabeth Rawlings (Armada, Mich. / Romeo) won the three-meter dive finishing with 311.03 points and placed third in the one-meter dive with a score of 259.73.
WSU placed third in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Maleski, Ferreira, Maraskine, and Kei Cze Prentis (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) finished with a time of 1:48.93.
The Warriors will return to the pool for the GLIAC Championships on February 11-14 in Jenison, Mich.
