WAYNE STATE GAME NOTES VS. LEWIS

Wayne State tied the school record for wins in a season (23) with yesterday's 75-61 triumph over seventh-ranked Drury.  The 1980-81 squad (23-5) set the original standard that was equaled by last year's squad (23-8).

The Warriors are 3-0 in NCAA First Round Tournament games under fourth-year head coach Carrie Lohr and 3-1 all-time including a 91-83 setback at Indianapolis in 2003.  WSU defeated Findlay (63-58) in 2013, Indianapolis (63-58) in 2014 and Drury yesterday.

Both games against the Greyhounds (in 2003 and 2014) were played on today's date (March 14th).

Wayne State is 2-0 in NCAA Regional Semifinal contests with victories over Wisconsin-Parkside (70-60) in 2013, and Lewis (87-80) in 2014.

WSU scored the first seven points against the Panthers yesterday and led from start to finish for the 10th time this season and third time on the road.

Lohr entered her fourth year guiding the Warriors fourth on the all-time wins list but moved into second place when WSU defeated Malone on Feb. 19.  She is averaging 20 wins per season at Wayne State.

Lohr has compiled three consecutive 20-win seasons out of the five in school history (23 wins in 1980-81 and 20 wins in 1994-95).

The Warriors played the 1,100th game in women's basketball program history in the GLIAC Quarterfinals.

WSU is 5-3 all-time in NCAA Tournament games, including a 5-0 mark in neutral site contests.

Wayne State and Lewis are the only two Midwest Regional schools to have qualified each of the last three seasons for the NCAA Tournament.

The Warriors are 20-0 when leading at the half.

WSU is 21-1 when it has a better field goal percentage that its opponent, and 10-0 when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.

Wayne State is 17-2 in games decided by 10 or more points after yesterday's 14-point triumph.

What Brown Can Do For You:  Senior center Shareta Brown notched her 24th double-double of the season yesterday with team-high totals of 17 points and four assists, along with a game-best 20 rebounds.  She has either led or tied for the team lead in scoring in 22 games, in rebounds 24 times, in assists nine times, steals 14 times and blocks 14 times.

Starting Lineup:  WSU had its sixth different starting lineup in the opening game of the NCAA Tournament.  Junior Kristen Long made her first start of the year, while senior Ondrea Hughes started for the first time since Jan. 10.  Long contributed six points and two assists with Hughes adding 13 points and seven defensive rebounds.

Hitting the Boards:  Wayne State was credited with 54 rebounds in the win over Drury, tying this year's single-game high against a Division II opponent (54 rebounds in Feb. 26 win at Findlay).  The single-game high for 2014-15 came on Nov. 18 against Michigan-Dearborn when the Warriors had 59 rebounds.

Getting Defensive:  The 26.5 percent that Drury shot yesterday was the lowest mark by a WSU opponent this year outside of Michigan-Dearborn's 21.8 percent (12-of-55).  The Division II school with the lowest mark was Salem International on Dec. 19 at 27.4 percent (17-of-62).
