Women's Swimming & Diving Tops Ashland in Home Opener

Three WSU divers collected NCAA qualifying marks on Saturday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming & diving team won its home opener over Ashland 152-70 on Saturday.

RELAY RESULTS
• Emily Marginean (Tecumseh, Ont.), Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower), Emma Weber (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central) and Hannah Berich (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.16.  The Eagles won the 200 freestyle relay.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
• Ellie Dean (Midland, Mich. / Dow) won the 100 freestyle with a time of 11:00.50 and Aliza Durack (West Bloomfield, Mich.) took home the title in the 200 freestyle by turning in a time of 2:00.94.  Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Montes Urales, Mexico) was the fastest in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.27.  Svisco won the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.44.

• Berich won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.90 and Estrada also won the 100 freestyle with a finishing time of 53.81.  Marginean topped all swimmers in the 200 backstroke by notching a time of 2:11.65.  Ashland won the 500 freestyle and 200 breaststroke.

DIVING RESULTS
• Elizabeth Rawlings (Armada, Mich. / Romeo) won the one-meter event with a 275.00 and Morgan Hitchings (Grand Rapids, Mich. / City) took second with a overall score of 266.90 both of which are good for NCAA qualifying cuts.  Rawlings also won the three-meter event with a mark of 305.90, while Holly Krill (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central) finished second with a score of 283.65.  Hitchings was third with a 276.60 and all three three-meter divers earned NCAA qualifying marks.

"The big story today was the performance of the divers.  With Liz, Holly, Morgan and Riese qualifying for the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships, that is a great step and I know the diving program will continue to build from this accomplishment."
