Women's Swim and Dive Notches Victory Over Ashland, 128-81

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swim and dive squad (3-1 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) defeated the Ashland Eagles (1-1 overall, 0-1 GLIAC), 128-81, at home on Saturday.

QUALIFYING PERFORMANCES

Junior Mia Teifer (Trenton, Mich. / Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central) claimed a victory in the one-meter dive with 282.80 points. Her performance met the NCAA qualifying standard of 255 points.

Sophomore Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) earned first place in the three-meter dive (269.05). Her score met the NCAA qualifying standard of 265 points.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Freshman Marjorie Myers (Pittsburgh, Penn. / Franklin Regional) notched her first collegiate victory in the 1000 free (11:05.91).

Senior Emily Marginean (Tecumseh, Ont.) won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.93.

Senior Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Chihuahua, Mexico) claimed the top spot in the 50 free (24.54).

Freshman Ashleigh Allen (Clarkston, Mich.) earned her first win as a Warrior in the 400 IM (4:44.94).

Sophomore Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) won the 200 fly in 2:10.55.

Sophomore Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) clutched the number one spot in the 100 free (53.60).

RELAY RESULTS

WSU notched a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:48.26). The winning quartet consisted of junior Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower), Koh, Groteler, and Bueno Estrada.

"I keep seeing great improvements overall from the women's program, and I am enjoying watching everyone benefit from the hard training we are doing! I thought the relays and divers did a great job and saw a lot of best times. At this time of the year with so much going on, it is impressive."
