Koh, Lamb Earn B-Cuts During Thursday's GLIAC Swim Prelims

WSU will have 12 swimmers competing tonight in the Championship and Consolation Finals combined.

Meghan Lamb earned a B-cut time in the 200 free.
JENISON, Mich. – Two Wayne State University women's swimmers earned NCAA B-cut qualifying times on Thursday, as the Warriors concluded the second day preliminary session at the GLIAC Championships.

Freshman Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) and senior Meghan Lamb (East China, Mich. / St. Clair) both earned the B-cut times, doing so in the 200 free.  Koh earned third with a time of 1:52.95, while Lamb was fourth with a time of 1:53.37.

In the morning's first race, the 400 IM, sophomore Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) and junior Ellie Dean (Midland, Mich. / Dow) qualified for the finals B-race.  Svisco completed the event with a time of 4:35.44 (ninth place), with Dean finishing with an 11th-best time of 4:38.01.  Junior Hannah Berich (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Adams) narrowly missed the B-race, finishing 18th with a time of 4:51.65.

Freshman Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) and senior Makayla Myers (Hudsonville, Mich.) will advance to the evening's championship race in the 100 butterfly.  Groteler was third (56.70) in the prelims, while Myers was eighth (57.33).  Junior Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Chihuahua, Mexico) and senior Abi Johns (Holland, Mich.) will also register points for the Warriors in the event, competing in the B-race this evening.  The Green & Gold swimmers finished 11th and 12th, respectively, with times of 57.96 and 58.06.

A total of six Warriors will score in the 200 free, as freshman Leticia Camilo Lemos (Sao Paolo, Brazil), sophomore Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich / Eisenhower), sophomore Emily Marginean (Tecumseh, Ont. / Riverside S.S.), and freshman Sophie Montesanti (Howell, Mich.) all qualified for Thursday's consolation race.  Lemos finished ninth (1:55.25) followed by Michalski in 11th (1:55.49), Marginean in 12th (1:55.82) and Montesanti in 14th (1:56.16).

Tonight's finals are slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
