Women's Swim and Dive Tops Saginaw Valley State, 156-133

The No. 14 Warriors claimed a win vs. the No. 25 Cardinals.

Sophomore Haley Groteler finished first in three events.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving squad notched a 156-133 victory at Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening.

Prior to the meet, the Warriors were ranked tied-for-14th nationally by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in the third TYR Top 25 Dual Meet Swimming and Diving Poll of the season. They were previously ranked 23rd in the nation.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Sophomore Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) won the 200 fly (2:09.96) and the 100 fly (58.67).

Sophomore Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) claimed the top spot in the one-meter dive (239.00 points) and the three-meter dive (267.10 points).

Senior Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Chihuahua, Mexico) finished first in the 50 free (24.59) and the 100 free (53.26).

Junior Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) notched a victory in the 100 back (58.37).

Sophomore Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) won the 100 breast in a time of 1:06.67.

RELAY RESULTS

WSU claimed the number one spot in the 200 medley relay (1:48.08). The winning quartet included Michalski, Koh, Groteler, and Bueno Estrada.

"The women made really nice strides today and their performances were pretty strong. I was pleased that they started off really strong and raced pretty aggressively today. Amanda and Mia, once again, threw some very impressive dives."

UP NEXT

The Warriors will travel to Ypsilanti on Saturday, Jan. 12, to face Eastern Michigan University at 1 p.m.
