Women's Swim and Dive Falls to Grand Valley State

The No. 14 Warriors were upended by the No. 11 Lakers.

Junior Ashlen Michalski claimed victories in the 100 back and 400 free relay.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The No. 14 Wayne State University women's swimming and diving squad lost its meet, 204.5-95.5, at No. 11 Grand Valley State on Saturday.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Junior Ashlen Michalski (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) claimed the top spot in the 100 back (59.76) and was the runner-up in the 200 back (2:10.25).

Senior Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Chihuahua, Mexico) notched a victory in the 50 free (24.77) and finished in second place in the 100 free (54.07).

Sophomore Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) earned a first-place finish in the three-meter dive (256.20 points) and a second-place finish in the one-meter dive (250.05 points).

Sophomore Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich.) finished the 200 fly in second place (2:12.38).

RELAY RESULTS

WSU claimed the number one spot in the 400 free relay (3:37.46). The winning quartet included sophomore Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia), Groteler, junior Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower), and Michalski.

"The women, while having some solid performances, will need to strive for overall stronger performances, as we still have quality opponents within these next few weeks. Amanda Hurchalla dove very well today, and we finished on a strong note with the 400 Free Relay. They are all working very hard and, overall, the Warriors had a good day."

UP NEXT

Wayne State will travel to Saginaw Valley State on Friday, Jan. 11, to face the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m.
