DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (1-1 overall) will look to build off its win last weekend over Lake Erie when it travels to meet Lewis (0-2 overall) on Saturday evening.

STORYLINES
Wayne State continues the early portion of its schedule with a contest at Lewis on Saturday. The Warriors have played the Flyers every year since 2009. WSU will look to take advantage of game action since this contest and the Nov. 27th game at Hillsdale are the final non-conference games of the season.

THE SERIES
Wayne State trails 5-8 in the all-time series against Lewis, including a 1-6 mark on the road. The Flyers have won five of the last six meetings. The Warriors last won, 74-70, in overtime on Nov. 26, 2016, inside the Matthaei. Last season's matchup was a thriller that Lewis won 74-72 in Detroit. Head coach

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
After an exhibition at Illinois, the Flyers have lost their first two games against a pair of GLIAC programs. Lewis fell to Northern Michigan (76-63) and Michigan Tech (63-54). Head coach Scott Trost is in his 14th season leading the men's basketball program. He is the program's all-time winningest coach and has coached the Flyers to five 20-win seasons and five NCAA Tournament berths, while averaging 19 wins per year.

Redshirt junior Anthony D'Avanzo is the team's leading scorer at 18.5 points per game, while grabbing a team-best 7.0 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Adam Pischke is scoring 12.0 points per game and has dished out a team-high six assists.

Lewis was picked to finish fifth in the GLVC and returns eight players from last season's team that won 25 games. The Flyers beat Grand Valley State (65-63) before falling to Southern Indiana (62-61) in the NCAA Tournament.

INSTANT OFFENSE
Senior guard
Brailen Neely has provided an offensive threat for the Warriors. The Oakland transfer played 48 minutes in the season opener and scored 23 points before totaling 26 points at Lake Erie. He has connected on three triples in each contest. Neely has also provided a spark on defense with four steals to go with 12 rebounds and nine assists.

DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER
Wayne State and Ohio Dominican started the season in style on Nov. 8th. The Warriors fell 87-86 in double overtime. It was the first overtime game to begin a season for WSU since the 2001-02 season when the Warriors lost to Northwood in one overtime.

SHARP SHOOTER
Junior
Darian Owens-White is cementing himself as one of the better shooters in the GLIAC and in program history. He led the league in three-point field goal percentage (.466 / 61-of-131) during the 2018-19 season. For his career, Owens-White ranks fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.430 / 68-of-158 / min. 25 made) and is tied-for-22nd in school history in three-pointers made (68).

GREER BACK FOR 19TH SEASON
Head coach
David Greer is in his 19th season as the top man on the Warriors' bench. He equaled the school record for years as head men's basketball coach last season, joining Newman Ertell (1929-48) and Joel Mason (1948-66) at 18 years on the WSU bench.Â

FRESH FACES
The Warriors added seven newcomers during the offseason, including four transfers who hope to push the Green & Gold back into the postseason. Three of those transfers are joining the squad from DI programs, including
James Gordon IV (Toledo),
Brailen Neely (Oakland) and
Naji Ozeir (Michigan). The other transfer is
Avery Lewis, brother of former Warrior Michael Lewis, who will need to sit out this season due to GLIAC transfer rules.

The newcomers have announced their presence early in the season as Gordon has totaled 27 points and 17 rebounds in two games, while Talbot has 10 points, seven rebounds in 31 minutes played, Grant has eight points, 12 boards in 51 minutes and Augustine has posted seven points 12 rebounds in 42 minutes played.
