DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (20-3 overall) continues to rank second in the region, chosen by the NCAA selection committee.
WSU trails UIndy in the Midwest Region Rankings. Following the Warriors are Drury, Ferris State, Lewis, Northwood, Grand Valley State, Missouri-St. Louis, Tiffin and Illinois-Springfield. Wayne State has an overall Division II record of 17-2 and a 15-0 mark in the region.
The Warriors remained 23rd in the nation in this week's Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Rankings, tallying 30.00 points. WSU is the only team from the GLIAC that is ranked in the top 42, as well as one of the three GLIAC teams in the top 50 (No. 43-Ferris State and No. 46-Grand Valley State).
Seniors
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) were ranked 27th in the nation (previously 24th) by the ITA, with 16.42 points. The No. 1 doubles duo went undefeated in regular-season matches (8-0) and had a 16-6 overall record.
Up next, the Green and Gold will compete in the NCAA Regionals (May 11-12) after receiving an automatic qualifying bid for winning the GLIAC Tournament.
