Women's Swim and Dive Falls to Northern Michigan

The Warriors get a second chance against the Wildcats on Nov. 6 at 10 AM.

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swim and dive team fell to Northern Michigan on the opening day of a back-to-back set against the Wildcats.  The Warriors dropped the meet 131-86. 

Individual Results
In the 175-yard freestyle, Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) placed second with a time of 1:43.08.  Fox also took third place in the 125-yard IM, finishing the race in 1:19.35. 

In the 25-yard breast stroke, Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) and Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) took second and third, respectively. Gurecki posted a 14.23, while Koh notched a 14.34.  Koh and Gurecki were also strong in the 75-yard breast stroke. Koh was second, getting a time of 49.30, while Gurecki took third at 49.58. 

The 75-yard butterfly was a strong event for the Green and Gold as three swimmers finished in the top four.  Megan Elmquist (Davison, Mich.) finished in second at 44.35, Abby Warner (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) placed third with a time of 45.95 and Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) touched out in fourth at 46.36.  Brunner and Elmquist also took second and third respectively in the 25-yard butterfly. 

Moving to the 25-yard freestyle, the Warriors again found success, as Julia Katulski (Novi, Mich.) and Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) tied for second at 12.10.  Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) was right behind, posting a 12.20. 

In the 75-yard freestyle, Tarlev and Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.) were strong, finishing in second and third, respectively.  Tarlev posted a 39.90, while Waters touched out at 40.09. 

The 75-yard backstroke was another event that saw the Warriors take second, third and fourth place, as Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison), Fox and Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston) all touched out within seconds of each other. 

Relay Results
The Warriors took second in the 125-yard freestyle relay, with a team of Gurecki, Megan Sieloff (Grand Blanc, Mich.), Lauren Paris (Chesterfield, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North), Dice and Chorley.  The Green and Gold finished with a time of 58.14. A second Warriors team of Brunner, Katulski, Waters, Branford and Tarlev were right behind in third place.

The Warriors are back in action today against Northern Michigan. The meet is set to begin at 10 AM.
