Women's Swim and Dive Drops Meet Against Oakland On Senior Day

The Warriors are back in action against Oakland on Jan. 23. The meet is set to begin at noon.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swim and dive team dropped its final home meet of the season to Oakland University Saturday afternoon inside the Matthaei Natatorium. The Warriors lost by a final score of 179-96. Prior the meet, the program honored seniors Ashleigh Allen (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Clarkston), Sydney Balk (Farmington, Mich.), Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) and Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) for their hard work and dedication.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) kicked things off with a win in the 1650 free, posting a time 17:54.06. After that, Koh took third in the 100 IM, touching out in 1:00.22.

In her final home meet, Brunner took third place in the 200 fly, notching a time of 2:13.93. Moments later in the 50 free, Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) and Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) touched out in second and third, respectively. Tarlev finished the race in 24.76, while Gurecki posted a time of 25.11.

Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) took second place in the one-meter diving event, while Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt) placed third. Senkus scored a 252.90, while Woida earned a 236.02. In the three-meter dive, Senkus again took second, collecting a score of 253.42. Woida took third place with a score of 232.87.

In the 100 free, Munoz placed third, touching out in 53.81. Minutes later, Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) took second place in the 100 back, collecting a time of 58.62.

The 100 breast was a strong event for the Warriors, as Koh and Gurecki took second and third, respectively. Koh earned a time of 1:05.87, while Gurecki recorded a 1:07.33.

Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Austrailia) touched out in third place in the 500 free, registering a time of 5:23.12. In the next event, Tarlev grabbed third place in the 50 fly. She finished in 26.28.

RELAY RESULTS
The quartet of Chorley, Koh, Brunner and Tarlev managed a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The group collected a time of 3:56.29.

In the 200 free relay, the Warriors' team of Koh, Brunner, Tarlev and Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) touched out in first. The group posted a time of 1:37.10. Munoz, Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston), Gurecki and Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.) took third place in the same event, touching out in 1:39.32.

"Today, we celebrated 15 amazing seniors and super-seniors! They embody everything I could ever ask for out of a group. They are amazing women and men, hard workers in the pool, scholar-athletes out of the pool…just true Warriors. We kicked off our first meet in about two months, and the Warriors had some really strong swims! I am very thankful to Oakland that we get to do this, and tomorrow, we both get together to do it again!"
