Women's Swim and Dive Defeats Saginaw Valley State

The Warriors won nine events total.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team continued its winning ways, collecting a 137-65 victory over Saginaw Valley State Saturday afternoon. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
The Warriors claimed the top three spots in the 50 free, as Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) took first (24.53), Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) placed second (24.77) and Julia Katulski (Novi, Mich.) collected third (25.70).  In the 50 fly, Tarlev and Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis) finished first and second, respectively.  Tarlev had the winning time of 26.27, while Brunner notched a 26.59. 

Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) won the one-meter diving event, posting a score of 287.60.  She then took second in the three-meter dive, earning a score of 271.90.  

Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) won the 100 free with a time of 54.24.  Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.) placed second in the same event, posting a time of 55.07.  One event later, Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) collected first in the 50 back, earning a time of 27.64. 

In the 200 free, Munoz touched out in 1:57.53, which was good for first place.  Moments later, Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) placed first (31.08) in the 50 breast, while Koh took second (31.43). 

RELAY RESULTS
The Warriors had the top three teams in the 200 medley relay.  The winning team was comprised of Chorley, Koh, Brunner and Tarlev.  They had a time of 1:48.72.  The second place team was Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston), Katulski, Munoz and Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem).  They earned a time of 1:52.51.  In third place, Sydney Balk (Farmington, Mich.), Peyton Michalski (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland), Abby Warner (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) and Lauren Paris (Chesterfield, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) posted a time of 1:57.87. 

To close the meet, the quartet of Branford, Brunner, Waters and Dice claimed first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:39.72.  In second, Katulski, Megan Elmquist (Davison, Mich.), Michalski and Gurecki had a time of 1:42.60.

The Warriors will participate in the GLIAC Championships, which will take place at Saginaw Valley State beginning on Feb. 4 and running through Feb. 7.
