Women's Fencing Earns Two Medals At Danosi Open

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University fencing program hosted the annual Danosi Open on Sunday at the Matthaei.

In the women's foil competition, Warrior freshman Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Italy) finsihed second out of six competitors.  Zizi Newhard of the Renaissance Fencing Club took first.

Junior Vika Shevchenko (Troy, Mich.) tied-for-third in the women's epee with Sophia Elston of the Plymouth/Ann Arbor Fencing Academy.  Catherine Popa of Hooked on Fencing (North Royalton, Ohio) finished first, while Ceili Widmann of Michigan State placed second.

In the mixed (men's and women's combined) sabre event, WSU newcomer Reagan Byars (Warren, Mich. / Warren Woods Tower) placed 30th.
