Women's Swim and Dive Earns Wins Against Northern Michigan and Findlay

The Warriors will be in action again at the Don Kimble Invitational, which is set for Nov. 18-20.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team defeated Northern Michigan and Findlay earlier today inside the Matthaei Natatorium.  WSU downed the Oilers 225-63 and edged the Wildcats 162-138. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Wayne State was strong in the 1,000 free, as Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) and Megan Sieloff (Grand Blanc, Mich.) took the top two spots.  Fox won the event with a time of 10:40.79, while Sieloff was able to record a time of 10:56.75. 

In the 200 free, the Warriors were able to grab the top three spots, as Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia) finished first, Fox placed second and Isidora Sekaric (Windsor, Ont. / W.F. Herman Academy) earned third.  Munoz touched out in 1:55.66, Fox registered a time of 1:57.58 and Sekaric had a time of 1:58.01. 

Hasten Horling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview) and Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Cruese North) finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 breast.  Horling had a time of 1:07.30, while Gurecki touched the wall in a time of 1:08.06.  Following that, Munoz won the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.10.  Elly Belmore (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) was third in the event with a time of 2:13.69. 

In the next event, Gurecki took the top spot in the 50 free, as she sprinted to a time of 24.45.  In the 100 free, Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.), Sekaric and Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem), finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.  Waters notched a time of 53.75, Sekaric recorded a time of 53.96 and Branford touched out in 55.20. 

Just as she did in the 1,000 free, Fox won the 200 back with a time of 2:05.97.  In the next event, Horling and Gurecki finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 breast.  Horling had a time of 2:26.22 and Gurecki posted a time of 2:29.61.  

Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich.) was strong in the 500 free, as she won the event with a time of 5:12.14.  One event later in the 100 fly, Munoz finished second with a time of 58.23.  To conclude the individual portion of the meet, Belmore and Horling collected top-three finishes in the 400 IM.  Belmore won the event with a time of 4:39.31, while Horling collected third place with a time of 4:44.73. 

Diving wise, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) continued her dominant start to the 2022-23 season, as she won both the one-meter and three-meter competitions.  She had a score of 452.18 in the one-meter event and topped the field with a score of 275.03 in the three-meter competition. 

RELAY RESULTS
To open the meet, Wayne State's foursome of Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison), Gurecki, Munoz and Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece) was able to finish second in the 400 medley relay.  That group had a time of 4:01.19. 

To conclude the action, the Warriors' quartet of Tarlev, Sekaric, Waters and Fox was able to top the field in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:34.94.

"I am very proud of our Warriors.  This weekend, we welcomed two very amazing and well-coached programs, and really did everything we could to compete against some of the very best.  We had a lot of great performances, and I do feel with the training and the bonding we are doing as a team, it is setting us up for success.  I was definitely pleased with this weekend, and definitely looking forward to our mid-season meet in two weeks."

The Warriors will hit the pool again at the Dom Kimble Invitational, which is set to run from Nov. 18-20 in Kentwood, Mich.
