Swimming and Diving Squads See Multiple Athletes Qualify For NCAA Championships

The NCAA Championships will take place from March 9-12 in Greensboro, N.C.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving programs received a total of four invitations to the 2022 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships as the official qualification list was released on Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.  The men's and women's teams each had two individuals qualify for the national finals.

The 2022 NCAA Championships will be held March 9-12 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.  The men's team placed ninth in 2021 and has finished in the top-nine 13 of the last 16 years (excluding 2020 - championships not finished due to COVID).  Meanwhile, the women's squad finished 21st in 2021.   They have finished in the top-10 in 12 of the last 14 years (excluding 2020 - championships not finished due to COVID) at nationals, including a national championship in 2012.

In addition to the four swimmers qualifying, two female and two male divers will also be participating in the pre-qualification events (one meter and three meter) on Tuesday, March 8.

Junior Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) is a top-10 seed in the 50 free (19.69).  He also posted B-Cut qualifying times in the 100 fly (48.60) and 100 free (45.00).

Sophomore Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) could also see action in three individual events.  He has the second best time in the 100 fly (46.59) and is in a tie-for-14th in the 50 free (19.88).  He may also swim in the 100 free (44.19).

The two male divers that have earned their way to the NCAA finals and will take part in the pre-qualification rounds are senior Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) and sophomore Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford).

In the men's relays, the Green and Gold may swim in the 200 free relay (4th), 400 free relay (9th), 200 medley relay (11th) and 400 medley relay (15th).

Junior Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) will be busy at the NCAA Championships, as she will swim in the 200 free (1:50.41), 500 free (4:56.42) and 200 back (2:00.04).  She has a top-20 time in all of those events.  She can also swim in the 1000 free, where her time of 10:20.46 is 24th overall.

Graduate Student Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) will also be in Greensboro for the Warriors.  She will participate in the 100 breast (1:02.62) and 200 breast (2:16.51).  She has top-15 times in both of those events.  She can also swim in the 50 free (23.80) and 100 free (51.06).

The two female divers that have earned their way to the NCAA finals and will take part in the pre-qualification rounds are sophomore Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) and redshirt sophomore Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevlet).  Senkus claimed ninth in the three-meter diving competition and 16th place in the one-meter event at last year's NCAA Championships.

Women's relay wise, the Warriors are slated to participate in the 800 free relay (7th), 400 free relay (9th), 200 medley relay (13th) and 200 free relay (14th).
