Swim and Dive Squads Complete Third Day of NCAA Championships

Jordan Fox earned fifth place in the 500 free.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the third day of the NCAA Championships Friday evening at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.  The men's team did not have any athletes compete during Friday's prelims or finals, but the Warriors are in 15th place with 72 points.  Thanks to strong performances in tonight's finals, the women's squad added 31 points to their total and ended the night in 16th place.  They have 57 total points.

After qualifying with the eighth best time in the morning prelims, Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) claimed fifth place in the finals, posting a time of 4:53.70.  That was nearly two seconds better than her time in the prelims.  She garnered 14 points for the Warriors.

In the 100 breast consolation final, Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia) collected 14th place, recording a time of 1:03.49.  That gave the Green and Gold three more points.

To conclude the night, the women's 800 free relay team of Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia), Koh, Isidora Sekaric (Windsor, Ont. / W.F. Herman Academy) and Fox touched out in 7:28.09.  That was good for 10th place and earned WSU 14 points.

The top eight swimmers in each event earn First Team All-American honors, while places 9-16 receive Honorable Mention All-American accolades.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will be busy in tomorrow morning's prelims, as Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) and Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) will participate in the 100 free.  On the women's side, Koh and Fox will be taking part in various events.  Fox is slated to compete in the 200 back, while Koh will swim in the 100 free and 200 breast.  Diving wise, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) and Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt) will compete in the one-meter dive prelims.  Both the men and women will take part in the 400 free relay during tomorrow night's finals.
