Men's Tennis Ranked in Top 25 of Latest ITA Poll

Along with the team ranking, Dom Spicer was ranked in singles, while the duo of Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey was listed as one of the top doubles teams.

DETROIT -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its Division 2 rankings Thursday afternoon, and the Wayne State University men's tennis team checked in at No. 21 overall. 

On the season, the Warriors are 9-2 overall with a 6-1 mark against Division 2 foes.  The Green and Gold also have a win against Division 1 Toledo.  WSU is the second-highest ranked GLIAC team, as Davenport was slotted one spot ahead of the Warriors at No. 20.  The Warriors' only Division 2 loss came against No. 4 Indianapolis, where the Green and Gold were upended, 4-3. 

Player wise, the Warriors had three athletes receive national rankings.  In singles, Dom Spicer (London, England) was rated as the No. 63 player in the country.  In Division 2 matches, he has earned an 11-4 record.  Overall, Spicer is 14-6 in singles play. 

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) and Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) were ranked in doubles for the Warriors, earning the No. 22 spot in the poll.  That duo has a 12-4 record against Division 2 opponents.  Overall, the pair is 15-5. 

Over the next couple of weeks, the Warriors will be challenged with a variety of ranked opponent on the schedule.  The Warriors play Rollins later today, and the Tars were ranked No. 24 in the latest poll.  In a few days, WSU will see Embry-Riddle, which was listed at No. 5 in the country.  On March 15, the Green and Gold will play Saint Leo, which was ranked No. 3, and the Warriors will play No. 1 ranked Barry on March 17.  

GLIAC wise, DU and Ferris State are each ranked in the top 25, while Grand Valley State was just outside of that.  The Lakers came in at No. 28.
