Swim and Dive Squads Conclude Competition at the NCAA Championships

Luka Cvetko took ninth in the 100 free, while Jordan Fox placed 10th in the 200 back.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the final day of the NCAA Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday evening.  The men's team placed 15th after collecting 93 points.  On the women's side, the Warriors finished 16th with 81 total points.

Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) entered the morning prelims with the 80th best time in the 100 free, but he wasn't going to let that stop him from proving he was one of the best in the country.  Cvetko knocked off more than a second from his seed time in the prelims to earn a spot in the consolation finals.  From there, Cvetko went on to win the consolation final, recording a time of 43.49.  He garnered nine points for the Warriors.

Following that, Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) placed 10th in the 200 back, touching out in 1:59.69.  That gave the Green and Gold seven points.

In the women's one-meter diving competition, Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies) earned third place after posting a final score of 433.30.  That helped the Warriors gain 16 points.  Even though she did not compete in the one-meter diving finals, Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt) collected a point for the Warriors after placing 16th with a score of 376.25.

To conclude the night, the Warriors had teams in the men's and women's 400 free relay.  The women's squad ended up being disqualified.

The men's 400 free relay team of Cvetko, Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.), Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) and Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) recorded a time of 2:58.55.  That was good for 11th place and gave the Warriors 12 points.

The top eight swimmers in each event earn First Team All-American honors, while places 9-16 receive Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
