Men's Tennis Squad Earns ITA Award For Academic Success

Nine men's tennis players selected ITA Scholar Athletes.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team, which finished second at the NCAA Championships, received the ITA All-Academic Team award along with nine student-athletes being recognized with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

"This team was so special in so many ways," remarked head coach Bryan Morrow.  "To have nine players accomplish so much in one year is an amazing feet.  I am so proud of this  amazing group of student athletes." 

To be recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

 
  • have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • all varsity letterwinners should be factored into the team GPA for the current academic year

WSU posted a 3.526 average GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.

Earning Scholar-Athlete accolades for having a grade-point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and being listed on the institutional eligibility form were:

Wayne State compiled a 26-5 overall record, which included a 7-0 GLIAC mark (won 45 out of a possible 49 points), a GLIAC Tournament title, the first NCAA Midwest Regional title in program history, and five consecutive wins in the NCAA Tournament to reach the national championship match (first "northern" school since 2002 to reach the national championship match).
