Men's Tennis Leads GLIAC With Seven All-Academic Excellence Honorees

WSU men's tennis has had 38 All-Academic recipients in the las six years.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team had seven student-athletes named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team, which was the most in the conference. Over the last six years, head coach Bryan Morrow has had 38 All-Academic recipients.

The seven All-Academic Excellence Team members honored for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.5 were graduate student Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany), senior Donovan Nguyen (Troy, Mich. / Utica), juniors Luke Laws (Sunderland, England), Ryan Okonski (Stevensville, Mich. / St. Joseph), and Dom Spicer (London, England), along with sophomores Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Joe Steele (Beverly Hills, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit).

Karcz (MBA) earned his fourth consecutive All-Academic Excellence award since freshmen and first-year transfer students are not eligible, while Nguyen (Exercise and Sport Science) was recognized for the third straight year. Laws (Actuarial Mathematics) and Spicer (Management) received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the second consecutive year. Okonski (Global Supply Chain Management) advanced to the Excellence Team after garnering All-Academic honors in 2021. Grey (Neuroscience) and Steele (Marketing) were eligible for the first time this season.

Wayne State recorded the second-most Academic All-GLIAC honorees in school history with 247 during the 2021-22 academic year. WSU has produced 1,817 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last decade.
