Men's Cross Country Has Strong Showing at Lock Haven Invitational

The Warriors had three runners in the top 10.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Wayne State University men's cross country team had a strong outing at the Lock Haven Invitational earlier today, as the Warriors dominated the Division II field. Overall, the Green and Gold finished second, trailing only Division 1 Cornell. The third place team was nearly 100 points behind WSU.

The top 10 teams at the event were: Cornell (20 points), WSU (48 points), Dickinson (137 points), Messiah (139 points), Slippery Rock (160 points), Marywood (218 points), Misericordia (253 points), St. Vincent (267 points), Bloomsburg (292 points) and Ashland (295 points).

Leading the Warriors for the second straight week was Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden), who finished in second place. He recorded a time of 24:15.5, which was 0.4 seconds behind the first-place finisher from Cornell.

Following Buchanan was the always dependable Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.), who registered a time of 24:23.5. That was good for sixth place and continued his streak of consecutive top-25 finishes, which extends back to the beginning of last season.

Carson Nicoletti (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) was the next racer to cross the finish line for the Green and Gold, as he placed eighth with a time of 24:38.6. After Nicoletti, Nico Trevino (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) also earned a top-20 finish, crossing the finish line in 18th place. He had a time of 25:04.4.

The final scoring runner for WSU was Antonio Chapa (Portage, Ind. / Purdue Northwest), who placed 23rd with a time of 25:11.9. However, Jack Wilson (Washington, Mich. / Romeo (Butler)) was also strong, placing 24th with a time of 25:15.7. Zahid Salodawala (Romeoville, Ill. / Plainfield East) collected 29th place, notching a time of 25:26.7, while Jeremy Cavallo (Davisburg, Mich. / Clarkston) earned 36th place with a time of 25:35.5.

The final runner for WSU was Ethan Byrnes (Plymouth, Mich.), who finished 46th, registering a time of 25:50.0. The Warriors had nine runners finish in the top 50, with the entire race featuring more than 250 runners.

In the second event of the day, the Warriors had strong efforts from their remaining runners, as Adam Hafeli (Lake Orion, Mich.), Ulises Rodriguez (Pontiac, Mich. / Oxford), Jack Wallace (Ray, Mich. / Romeo), D'Anthony Shaw (Romulus, Mich. / Summit Academy North) and Athony Vinson (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) finished first through fifth, respectively.

"Our men made the most of this meet, with a fast course and nice weather. Tyler competed very well with Cornell's pack and nearly got the win, while Ransom made a nice recovery from a mid-race snafu where he made a wrong turn while leading. Carson had a huge PR, and Nico did as well. Antonio and Jack made it six in the top-25, with a 60-second spread, which is excellent for us. Our crew in the White race did an outstanding job as well, with Adam Hafeli taking the win in his first 8K."

The Warriors will be back in action next Friday at the Lansing Community College Invite. That meet is set to begin at 1:15 PM.
