Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Lansing Community College Invite

The Warriors had three runners in the top 20.

LANSING, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's cross country team continued its strong 2022 season, as the Warriors claimed second place at the Lansing Community College Invite earlier this afternoon. The Green and Gold had three runners finish in the top 20.

The final team scores were: Lansing Community College (19 points), WSU (94 points), Madonna (101 points), Calvin (102 points), Ferris State (152 points), Hillsdale (169 points), Lourdes (177 points), Siena Heights (181 points), Rochester (191 points) and Cleary (229 points).

Leading the way for Wayne State was Ethan Byrnes (Plymouth, Mich.), who posted a 10th-place finish. He had a time of 26:16.6. Less than a second behind him was Anthony Vinson (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower), who collected 11th place with a time of 26:17.5. That marks back-to-back top-15 finishes for Vinson.

The other runner in the top 20 for WSU was Jack Wallace (Ray, Mich. / Romeo), who placed 20th with a time of 26:40.5. Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Green and Gold were George Drallos (Commerce Township, Mich. / Lakeland) and Stevan Stajic (Belle River, Ont. / Tecumseh Vista Academy), who finished 30th and 48th, respectively. Drallos crossed the finish line with a time of 27:10.1, while Stajic recorded a time of 27:45.3.

Corban Hauch (West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West) and Zach Applegate (Bowling Green, Ohio) also ran hard for the Warriors, as the two of them finished 51st and 53rd, respectively. Hauch had a time of 28:00.6, and Applegate was able to earn a time of 28:07.5.

The Warriors will be in Wisconsin on Oct. 8 for the Lucian Rosa Invite. The meet is set to begin at 11:45 AM. The same course will be the host of the NCAA Midwest Regional in November.
