Women's Fencing Competes at Notre Dame's DeCicco Duals

Mancini finishes the day with an 18-1 mark.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Wayne State University women's fencing squad competed at the DeCicco Duals, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors fell to Detroit Mercy (10-9 plus eight double forfeits), Notre Dame (24-3), Cleveland State (23-4), Florida (19-8), Denison (21-6), Lawrence (22-5), and Northwestern (23-4) to finish the day 0-7.

EPEE RESULTS
Junior Vika Shevchenko (Troy, Mich.) notched the best mark in the category, wrapping up the day 12-9.

Freshman Jordan Baetz (Commerce, Mich.) won her first bouts of her collegiate career, going 4-17 for the afternoon.

FOIL RESULTS
It was another successful event for freshman Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy), who won 18 of her 19 bouts in the foil. This performances comes after a 9-6 mark in the Penn Invite.

Freshman Morgan Sanford also competed and went 0-12. 

SABRE RESULTS
Junior Reagan Byars (Warren, Mich.) was the lone student-athlete in the category for WSU. She finished at 5-16, an improvement over her results at the Penn Invite.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will compete in the Northwestern Duals on Saturday, February 4, and Sunday, February 5.
