Women's Fencing Competes On Day Two of Central Collegiate Fencing Championships

Mancini's sixth place in the foil highlights the afternoon.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's fencing team had four participants in Sunday's individual portion of the Central Collegiate Fencing Championships inside the French Field House. Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy) captured a sixth-place in the foil category to conclude a strong weekend for the freshman.

SABRE
The Warriors had one athlete in the sabre category on Sunday in junior Reagan Byars (Warren, Mich.). She went 2-5 in pool play and secured a 17th place overall finish.

FOIL
Mancini was the lone foilist for the Green and Gold. She went undefeated in the first round of pool play (5-0) and backed that up with a 4-2 mark in the second pool round to advance as a five-seed to the single elimination table round, In the round of eight, the freshman would fall, 15-12, to Northwestern's Anna Biasco. Still, it was a strong showing for Mancini, who wound up sixth overall for the day.

EPEE
Vika Shevchenko (Troy, Mich.) amassed a 5-1 record in the first pool round for the epee and advanced to the second round, where she compiled a 2-3 record. The junior placed 14th on Sunday.

Freshman Jordan Baetz (Commerce, Mich.) ranked 31st after going 0-5.

Wayne State will look ahead to NCAA Championship time, beginning with the Midwest Regional on Saturday. March 11, at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill.
