AUSTIN, Texas -- Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia / Prva gimnazija),
Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich. / Farmington) and
Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) of the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team were all named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-Americans on Tuesday afternoon. The three Warriors combined to rack up 10 All-American finishes at this month's NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.
Starting with Cvetko, he was a two-time First Team All-American as part of the 400 medley relay team (eighth - 3:12.59) and 200 free relay team (eighth - 1:19.49). The Croatian also garnered Honorable Mention All-American distinction three times with an 11th place finish as part of the 400 free relay team (2:56.60), a 16th place finish as part of the 800 free relay team (6:37.52), and a 16th place finish in the 50 free (20.18). He didn't stop there placing 29th in the 100 free (44.58).
Moving on to Jones, he was a member of that 200 free relay team, 400 free relay team and 800 free relay team. The Farmington, Mich. native also finished 20th in the 1650 free (15:47.61), 21st in the 400 IM (3:58.25), 24th in the 1000 free (9:24.77), and 24th in the 200 fly (1:49.93).
Last, but not least, Nowinski was a member of the 200 free relay team and 200 medley relay team that placed 12th and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors with a time of 1:27.81.
Combined with the selections of Mikaela Senkus and Jordan Fox yesterday, the WSU Swimming and Diving program ranked third nationally with five CSC Academic All-Americans trailing only Colorado Mesa (7) and UIndy (7). Thirty-one different institutions garnered at least one CSC Academic All-American from the 66 total honorees.
