Wasiniak and Martin Compete for Men's Diving at Inaugural Detroit Diving Classic

Max Wasiniak won both of his events on Saturday for the Warriors.

DETROIT -- Two members of the Wayne State University men's diving team saw their first action of the 2025-26 campaign competing in the inaugural Detroit Diving Classic on Saturday afternoon inside the Matthaei Natatorium. Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) and John Martin (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) were the two entrants for the Green and Gold.

WSU was one of three teams competing at the event. The other two schools were Aquinas from the NAIA ranks and fellow GLIAC member Davenport.

A total of 18 divers were entered into competition across both genders (eight men and 10 women).

"The first-ever Detroit Diving Classic was a great way to open our season, said head diving coach Jason Trout. Junior Max Wasiniak swept first-place in both the Men's 1-M and 3-M Championships (11 Dives). Max earned the first of two required national cuts, which is an incredible start this early in the season. Overall, I am proud of how the team competed and cannot wait to see how we continue to progress throughout the year."

Men's 3-M Championship (11 Dives, 6 Entrants)
1st - Wasiniak (489.35)
4th - Martin (443.20)

Neither Warrior competed in the Men's 1-M Championship (6 Dives), nor the Men's 3-M Championship (6 Dives).

Wayne State will next host its Alumni Meet on Friday, October 24, at 7 p.m. inside the Matthaei Natatorium, before a two-day stay in Marquette, Mich., for a battle with Northern Michigan on November 7 and 8.
