Fox and Senkus Receive GLIAC Commissioner's Awards

Warrior diver and distance swimmer recognized for work in the classroom and in the pool.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University senior distance swimmer Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia) and junior diver Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies-Eisenhower) are two of the six females from winter sports selected to receive a GLIAC Commissioner's Award for student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and in competition. 

Criteria include:
The nominee must have completed four semesters of full-time enrollment and therefore may not be a true freshman or true sophomore.

The nominee must have attained a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5, on a 4.0 grading scale.

The nominee must be a starter or key reserve.

Fox was a five-time All-American this season, including four First Team certificates, and scored a total of 58.5 points, which would have placed 18th in the team standings.  Those five All-American honors came in the 1000 free (second place), 500 free (second), 1650 free (third), 800 free relay (seventh), and 400 free relay (12th).  A 2021-22 recipient of this award, Fox was named a CSC (College Sports Communicators - formerly CoSIDA) Third Team Academic All-American this winter and earned seven All-GLIAC nods, including a pair of league titles in the 1000 free and 800 free relay.  The Australia native also garnered GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition for the third straight season. 

The 22-year-old Accounting major has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) six times, including two 4.0 terms and was named to the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) once.  A 15-time All-American, including nine First Team accolades, Fox was a 20-time All-GLIAC (top three in an event) swimmer.

Senkus is the league's best at her craft.  She was named GLIAC Diver of the Year after winning both the one-meter and three-meter dives at the conference championships.  Senkus then went on to earn a pair of First Team All-American honors by placing second in both events at the NCAA Championships.  The junior racked up a total of 34 points by herself, which would have placed 22nd in the team standings.  Not to mention she was a CSC First Team Academic All-American, a member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for the second straight season and a six-time GLIAC Diver of the Week honoree in 2022-23.

The 21-year-old Civil Engineering major Civil Engineering major has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all five semesters in college, including three terms with a perfect 4.0 GPA.  A six-time All-American (three First Team and three Honorable Mention / top eight nationally is First Team), Senkus is also a three-time All-GLIAC honoree having finished second in the one-meter competition as a sophomore before winning both boards as a junior.

With these two selections, the WSU women's swimming and diving program has had 15 GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipients in the 16-year history of the program, the most among all Warrior athletic teams.  In addition, Fox becomes the fourth member of the women's swimming and diving program to be a two-time recipient joining WSU Hall of Fame members Catherine Leix, Kayla Scott and Ashley St. Andrew.
