WSU Athletics Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

DETROIT -- Seven former Wayne State University student-athletes plus one former coach have been selected for induction into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

The class of 2023 includes national champion swimmers Joaquin Abascal Gallegos and Gloria Martinez Perez, softball National Player of the Year Lyndsay Butler, men's basketball standout Mike Hollingsworth, All-American golfer Joe Juszczyk, all-time winningest football quarterback Mickey Mohner, and national champion diver Elizabeth Rawlings.  The final member of the class is the all-time winningest NCAA Division 2 Softball Coach Gary Bryce.

"I would like to congratulate this year's eight HOF inductees," remarked WSU Director of Athletics Erika Wallace.  "This group of individuals achieved amazing accomplishments during their time at Wayne State, which speaks to the rich history of our University.  I'm looking forward to honoring them this fall during homecoming weekend.  A well deserved honor for all."

The WSU Athletic Hall of Fame membership will increase to 269 with the inductions this October.  The normal class size is six but with missing one year due to COVID the classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025 will each have up to eight members.

The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, October 6th, with the class also being introduced at the October 7th Homecoming football game vs. Michigan Tech.  Details about purchasing tickets for the induction ceremony will be released in the coming weeks.
