Vassilakos Named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week

The junior broke the Matthaei Natatorium record for the 1650 free on Saturday.

GLIAC -- Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich. [Carthage College]) was named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday.

This past week, starting at Findlay on Friday, Vassilakos placed third in a pair of events including the 100 free (54.92) and 200 free (1:58.57).

Then, on Saturday at home against Oakland, the Carthage College transfer won the 1650 free (16:51.36) and touched the wall second in the 500 free (5:11.54).  The junior also led off Wayne State's 200 free relay team that finished fourth (1:39.70) against the Golden Grizzlies.  While winning the 1650 free on Saturday, Vassilakos set a new pool record for the Warriors' Matthaei Natatorium.

Vassilakos is WSU's first GLIAC Female Swimmer of the Week of the 2023-24 season.  Saturday, her and her teammates will wrap up their regular season at Calvin beginning at 1 p.m. in Grand Rapids.
