Revamped Softball Home Run Derby Is A Smashing Success

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program hosted its annual Home Run Derby on October 7 using a revamped format.

This event has directly benefited the program with funds that were used for travel expenses (hotels, transportation, etc.) along with assisting towards the cost of new uniforms and equipment.

The 2024 event set records for both fundraising total ($10,471) and total number of gifts (165).

Sophomore Logan Forman earned the Home Run Queen title by blasting six round-trippers during the event.  Freshman Elly Koopman was the runner-up with four home runs, while several players tied for third with two home runs each.

The squad was divided into three teams with each group raising over $3,300 via 50 or more gifts per group.
