GENEVA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their five-day stay at the NCAA Championships on Tuesday at the SPIRE Institute. The Warriors swam in the 800 free relay while three divers (two men, one woman) officially qualified for the next four days of nationals.
Starting with the men, Wayne State finished in ninth place for the 800 free relay with a time of 6:31.21. The Warriors' quartet consisted of
Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia / Lycée Pierre De Coubertin),
Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.),
Thomas Jackowski (Wroclaw, Poland) and
Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.).
On the diving board,
Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) and
John Martin (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) are moving on, but were also joined by
Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford).
Wasiniak placed eighth at one meter and 17th at three meters while Martin was slotted 13th at one meter and ninth at three meters. Cottingham's two results included 22nd and 21st, respectively.
Switching gears to the women, WSU touched the wall in eighth thanks to a mark of 7:22.29. Wayne State's squad included
Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia / Mentone Grammar),
Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia / Comfandi Yumbo),
Megan Sieloff (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and
Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich. (Carthage College)).
In the diving well,
Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies (Eisenhower)) made it to the next stage after a sixth-place showing at one meter and third at three meters. Also competing was
Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru as the freshman finished 18th and 43rd, respectively.
Preliminary action on Wednesday will begin at 10 a.m.
