Women's Track Sends Runners and Jumpers to California This Weekend

DETROIT -- Select members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad will be competing at three different meets this weekend in California.

The competition for the Warriors begins later today at the Cal State LA Twilight Open being held at the Jesse Owens Track at University Stadium.

Tomorrow (April 12th), WSU will have student-athletes participating at two different meets. Some will be at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, while others will be at the Long Beach State Beach Invite.

This evening sophomore Annabelle Smith (Blissfield, Mich.) and redshirt senior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) will start the action for WSU with the long jump at 4 pm (Eastern). Williams will also be participating in the triple jump (6 pm ET) and the high jump (8:30 pm ET).

The track events this evening will be on a rolling schedule. The first Wayne State runner competing will be redshirt freshman Keneisha Thomas (Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere) in the 100m hurdles, followed by the 4x100m relay quartet of sophomore Elyse Miller (Woodhaven, Mich. /Gibraltar Carlson), freshman Rachel Overgaard (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron), Smith, and junior Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi).

Kutcha will then race in the 400m dash, followed by freshman Sasha-Gay Thompson (Plymouth/Shantamee, Jamaica Titchfield), senior Mikaela Owen (Bridgman, Mich.) and Overgaard in the 100m dash. Thomas and Miller will compete in the 400m hurdles, followed by Owen, Thompson and Overgaard in the 200m dash.

On Friday, junior Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem) will run in the women's 10K open starting at 11:05 am (ET) at APBCI. For the men's team, Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.) and Tyler Buchanan (Fenton, Mich. / Linden) will also be at the AP Bryan Clay Invitational running in the 5K. Buchanan's heat is at 12:25 pm (ET) on Friday, while Allen's heat takes place at 10:32 pm (ET) on Friday evening.

At the LBS Beach Invite on Friday, resdhirt seniors Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.) and Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.) will compete in the steeplehcase at 2:35 pm (ET). Overgaard will run the 100m dash at 4:14 pm (ET), and the 200m dash at 5:36 pm (ET), with Smith also competing in the 200m dash. Smith and Williams will participate in the long jump at 1 pm (ET), while Williams will also compete in the high jump at 3 pm (ET).

Also on Friday at the Beach Invite will be Ethan Pruzinsky (Troy, Mich. / Auburn Hills Avondale) in both the men's 5K and 1500m events.

The women's team will conclude the weekend on Saturday at the AP Bryan Clay Invitational. The 4x100m relay quartet of Thompson, Owen, sophomore Hanne Bastiaansen (Tessenderlo, Belgium KS Diest) and sophomore Avery Wilson (Davison, Mich.) will run at 1:15 pm (ET), followed by Wilson in the 400m dash at 1:55 pm (ET). Bastiaansen will run in the 100m dash at 3 pm (ET), then the 200m dash at 6:35 pm (ET). The 4x400m relay group of Miller, Wilson, Kutcha and Thomas will conclude the trip with a race at 7:30 pm (ET).

Allen and Buchanan are both scheduled to compete on Saturday in the men's 1,500m event at APBCI.
