2024 WSU Football - Wide Receivers Preview

DETROIT -- Over the next two weeks, we will continue previewing each position on the 2024 Wayne State University football team with each position coach highlighting their respective units.  This segment is the wide receivers preview with coach Ed Collins.

Over 65 percent of last year's receptions are gone, but the Warriors return two-year letterwinner Manny Harris as the top returning receiver.  Harris had 12 catches for 81 yards in nine games, plus added another 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

No other receiver on the roster has lettered at Wayne State.  Transfers Myles McKatherine and Justyz Tuggle sat out last year.  McKatherine played in 2021 and 2022 at the College of DuPage helping the Chaparrals to a national NJCAA title his final season.  He totaled 30 receptions for 632 yards and eight touchdowns.  Tuggle appeared in 13 games for Bethune-Cookman in two seasons, primarily as a returner.

JoShawn Lewis, a 2024 transfer from Gannon, has three years of Division 2 experience having played his first two seasons at Fairmont State.  During his collegiate career, Lewis has 68 receptions for 1,117 yards and nine touchdowns.

Colin Gardner enters his second year on the roster, while Pierce Muthui-Edwards had a big reception in the spring game after joining the roster in January.

WSU returns a trio of redshirt freshmen in Jordan Bell, PJ Sorce and Tyler Swick along with redshirt sophomore Jabari Campbell.

The true freshmen receivers are Donovan Isaac, Raymond Payne and Kristian Kilpatrick.

In addition to Tuggle at the slot position, sophomore Ke'Waun Farnum was selected as the squad's Offensive Rookie of the Year award recipient last fall.  True freshman M'Khi Guy accounted for 2,635 yards (1,946 rushing and 689 passing) and 35 touchdowns (25 rushing and 10 passing) as a senior helping Muskegon to the MHSAA Division 2 state title.  The 5-6 athlete has moved to slot in the Warrior offense.
