Women's Cross Country Gets Four Commitments For 2025

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's cross country program, under the direction of eighth-year head coach Grant Lofdahl, has signed four student-athletes for the 2025-26 academic year.  Joining the Warriors this fall will be Chloe Josephson (Linden, Mich. / Linden), Olivia Lincourt (Northville, Mich. / Farmington [Oakland C.C.]), Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) and Kendall Sears (Napoleon, Ohio / Pettisville).

Chloe Josephson, 5-11, Linden, Mich. / Linden
High School:
 Will be a 2025 graduate of Linden High School ... was a two-year cross country letterwinner for the Eagles ... qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 state cross country finals as a junior after winning the Holly Regional in 19:35.4 ... posted a career-best time of 19:19.9 in placing sixth at the Flint Metro League cross country championships in 2023 ... finished 11th at the MHSAA Division 2 regional track meet as a freshman in the 3200m race, while also competing in the 4x800m relay ... placed fifth as a sophomore in the 3200m regional track meet, and fourth in the 1600m event in 2023 ... participated in the 1600m race, the 4x400m relay and the 4x800m relay at the 2024 MHSAA Division 2 state track meet ... served as a team captain as a senior for cross country, volleyball and track ... helped the LHS Volleyball squad to a district title ... earned an Academic letter all four years ... was a member of the National Honor Society, served as Student Council President and received the Academic Athlete Award in volleyball.

Personal:  Full name -- Chloe L. Josephson ... born on February 12, 2007, in Flint, Mich. ... daughter of Jeremy and Heather Josephson ... has a younger sister, Addison ... plans to major in Nursing.

Coach Lofdahl on Chloe Josephson:  "We really like the potential and athleticism of multi-sport athletes, and Chloe is one of those folks.  She dual-sported with volleyball and cross country in high school, and once she is focused year-round on running, we think she is really going to shine.  You never know for sure where an incoming runner will end up in terms of events, but she has the height and skills of a top miler and steeplechaser."

Olivia Lincourt, 5-8, Northville, Mich. / Farmington (Oakland C.C.)
Pre-WSU:
 Attended Oakland Community College for two years (2023-24 and 2024-25) ... earned MCCAA All-Eastern Conference honors in 2024 with a third-place finish at the conference championship meet in a personal-best time of 21:01.4 in the 5K race ... posted a 2024 6K season-best time of 25:41.3 at the Siena Heights Cross Country Invite.

High School:  A 2023 graduate of Farmington High School ... was a three-year varsity letterwinner in both cross country and track for coaches Jeremy Auer and Tony Baracco ... helped the Falcons to a third-place regional finish in 2020 and fourth place in 2022 ... competed at the MHSAA Division 1 state cross country meet in both 2020 and 2022 running a 19:58.2 in 2022 ... notched a personal-best 5K time of 19:44.9 at the 2022 MITCA Michigan Meet of Champions (Girls Elite Open) ... received All-Oakland Activities Association (OAA) honors as a senior with a 10th-place finish at the White Division league championship meet ... participated in the 4x800m relay at the 2021 MHSAA Regional track meet and the 2023 state finals ... posted a personal-best time of 2:22.67 (800m) at the 2023 MHSAA Regional track meet ... garnered All-OAA Blue-Gold recognition as a senior in the 1600m (personal-best time of 5:27.02), 3200m (personal-best time of 12:16.19), and 4x400m relay with two second-place finishes and a third place (1600m) finish ... named All-Region in 2023 as a member of the third-place 4x800m relay ... served as a team captain in both sports as a senior.

Julia was a freshman middle blocker at Schoolcraft (Community) College in 2024 and totaled 141 kills, 31 digs and 24 blocks ... plans to major in Kinesiology (Exercise and Sport Science).

Coach Lofdahl on Olivia Lincourt:  "Olivia is a middle distance runner who almost came to us out of high school.  She should make a smooth transition from OCC to WSU next year, and is a runner with good natural speed.  We will work on building her up aerobically, and she may be a contributor in cross country down the road.  She has the ability to do some good things on the track right away, and will fit well with our 800-1500 group."

Ava Peters, 5-3, Livonia, Mich. / Franklin
High School:
 Will be a 2025 graduate of Livonia Franklin High School ... was a four-year cross country letterwinner for the Patriots ... competed at the MHSAA Division 1 state final cross country meet each of her final three seasons improving her finish from 97th, to 33rd to 24th to earn All-State accolades as a senior ... set a personal-best time of 18:13.4 at the 2024 MHSAA state finals race ... earned All-Region recognition three times in cross country ... helped the LFHS cross country squad to four consecutive KLAA (Kensington Lakes Athletic Association) East Division titles, and three straight City League championships ... ran anchor on the 4x800m relay that competed at the MHSAA Division 1 state finals meet in both 2022 and 2023 ... placed sixth at the regional meet as a freshman in the 3200m race, and qualified for the state finals the following year ... finished third in the 3200m race at the regional meet in 2024 ... participated in the 1600m race at the state finals as a junior ... garnered All-Region honors four times in track ... was a two-year team captain in both cross country and track ... received Academic All-State honors in cross country as a senior ... was a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll.

Personal:  Full name -- Ava L. Peters ... born on March 26, 2007, in Southfield, Mich. ... daughter of Benjamin and Lauren Peters ... has two brothers, Chase and Timothy, and a sister, Trinity ... plans to major in Environmental Science.

Coach Lofdahl on Ava Peters:  "We are very excited that Ava chose Wayne State.  She has a lot of ability in the mile/1500m and up, and is well-suited to the longer collegiate distances.  She is not afraid of high-level competition and tends to step up her level when the stakes are highest.  She was all-state as a senior in cross country and will make an immediate impact for us when she arrives on campus.  Her potential on the track is very high as well."

Kendall Sears, 5-3, Napoleon, Ohio / Pettisville
High School:
 Will be a 2025 graduate of Pettisville High School ... was a four-year cross country letterwinner for the Blackbirds and coach Gabe Jaramillo ... competed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division 3 state cross country championships each of her final three seasons,  improving her time each year ... recorded a personal best mark of 19:19.1 at the 2024 state meet ... will earn her fourth letter in track and field this spring ... participated in the OHSAA Division 3 regional track meet as a sophomore in the 3200m race (season-best time of 12:20.98) and the 4x800m relay ... competed in the same two events at the 2023 regional meet ... was a member of the Buckeye Border Conference champion 4x800m relay as a sophomore as well as the 4x400m relay ... won four BBC league titles in 2024 (1600m, 3200m, 4x400m and 4x800m relay).

Personal:  Full name -- Kendall M. Sears ... born on June 8, 2006, in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio ... daughter of Austin and Melissa Sears ... plans to major in Applied Nutrition.

Coach Lofdahl on Kendall Sears:  "When Kendall had her official visit with us, she immediately clicked with the team.  She has a good attitude and loves to train and compete.  We knew that she would be a good fit for Wayne State and were very pleased when she committed.  She is a tough, grinder type of distance runner, who we feel will continue to improve significantly in our training system."

The WSU women's cross country squad is graduating five four-year letterwinners in Natalie Davies, Mattie Drennan, Emily Gordon, Reagan Justice and Annalee Misch.
