Emily Gordon Qualifies for NCAA National Championships

Gordon Selected For NCAA Indoor Track Championships

She will compete in the 800m prelims on March 14th.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University senior Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) has been selected for the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Track & Field National Championships which will be held March 13-15 in Indianapolis as part of the NCAA D2 Sports Festival.

Gordon will be representing the Warriors in the 800m run, the first WSU runner to qualify in this event in the 13th year of the program.  The prelims for the 800m run are slated for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14, with the finals at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 15th.

This year the NCAA selection committee took the top 18 in each individual event and the top 12 for each relay (DMR and 4x400).

Gordon has been a mainstay for WSU the last four years.  As a freshman in 2021 she was selected as the women's cross country Newcomer of the Year.  At the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Championships, Gordon placed sixth in the 800m run and was part of the fourth-place DMR.  She scored at the 2022 GLIAC Outdoor meet with an eighth-place finish in the 1,500m run.

As a sophomore, she competed for the cross country squad at both the NCAA Midwest Regional and the national championship meet.  Gordon finished third in the 800m race at the GLIAC Indoor Championships and was a member of the third-place DMR.  She placed seventh at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships in the 800m run.

During the 2023-24 academic year, Gordon participated for the cross country squad at both the NCAA Midwest Regional and the national championship meet.  After redshirting during the indoor season, she finished third in the 800m run at the 2024 GLIAC Outdoor Championships.

Earlier this year, Gordon earned Second Team All-GLIAC recognition for a 20th-place finish at the 2024 GLIAC Cross Country Championships.  Last month, she posted a career-best 800m run time of 2:09.54 at the GVSU Big Meet-Friday, then placed second in the same event this past Sunday at the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Championships with a time of 2:11.00.
