Men's Golf Advances to Medal Match Play Finals of GLIAC Championships

Wayne State will face Saginaw Valley State for the Team Championship on Easter Sunday.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- After tying-for-third in the Stroke Play Championship of the 2025 GLIAC Championships, the Wayne State University men's golf team advanced to the event's Medal Match Play Championship semifinals on Saturday.  Playing as the three seed, the Warriors defeated second-seeded and ninth-ranked Grand Valley State 3-2, which sets them up for Championship Sunday.  WSU will face fourth-seeded Saginaw Valley State on Easter with the action scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

"It was a complete battle against Grand Valley as it came down to the 18th hole," said head coach Mike Horn.  "Tyler Hurtubise poured in a birdie from 11 feet to cap the come-from-behind victory.  All five guys played extremely well.  We had two with a 69, two with a 70, and a 71.  After we struggled in the second round, we actually battled back there to get the number three seed.  The guys really showed their resilience and played an outstanding first match.  We look forward to a great battle with Saginaw Valley tomorrow.  Really proud of the guys as usual.  I think they proved something to themselves today."
