Belmore Receives Academic All-America Recognition From CSC

DETROIT -- Wayne State University junior swimmer Elly Belmore (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) was honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American distinction on Tuesday afternoon.  She was named to the Academic All-America Second Team.

Belmore, who is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science,  has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all five semesters, including a perfect 4.0 term GPA each of the last three semesters.  She is a two-time (2023 and 2024) CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American (2025 is still to be announced), and will earn her second consecutive GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition as well as D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award this summer.

In the pool, Belmore earned Second Team All-America honors last month as a member of the 13th-place 800 Free Relay.  She garnered similar honors in 2023 as a member of the 12th-place 400 Free Relay.  Belmore has competed in 11 events at the NCAA Championships during her first three years, including (400 Free Relay-2023; 200 IM-2023, 2024; 400 IM-2023, 2024; 200 Fly-2023; 200 Medley Relay-2023, 2024; 100 Back-2024; 200 Back-2024; and 800 Free Relay-2025).

She is a nine-time All-GLIAC performer (top three in an event), including all three years in the 200 IM (2nd-2023, 2024; 3rd-2025); 400 IM (2nd-2023); 200 Back (2024); 200 Medley Relay (2024, 2025); 400 Medley Relay (2024); and 800 Free Relay (2025).

Belmore's selection marks the third consecutive year at least one member of the WSU women's swimming and diving program has been honored with CSC Academic All-America honors.  Prior to COVID, swimming and diving was part of the at-large program and the Warrior women's swimming and diving program had at least one selection for nine straight seasons (2010-2018).

Her recognition marks the 99th in the history of the Academic All-American program for a Wayne State student-athlete and the 74th since 2002.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division II Academic All-America® program.
