Five Members of Women's Fencing Team Named Academic All-GLIAC

Five Excellence Team honorees is the second most ever.

DETROIT -- Five members of the 2024-25 Wayne State University women's fencing team earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic honors with all five being named to the All-Academic Excellence Team.  The five Excellence Team members is tied for the second-most in program history.  This is the sixth year that the conference has recognized student-athletes from non-GLIAC sports with All-Academic distinctions.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, and not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

Grade-point averages listed are calculated through the fall semester since that was the last grading period before the season ended.

All-Academic Excellence Team Selections (3.5-4.0 Cumulative GPA)
Salma Abdrabou, So., Cairo, Egypt / Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE, Technology, Information Systems and Analytics, 3.97 (first-year eligible)
Reka Galfalvy, So., Budapest, Hungary / Vörösmarty Mihály, Marketing Honors, 3.86 (first-year eligible)
Ludovica Mancini, Jr., Rome, Lazio, Italy / Liceo Linguistico Niccolò Machiavelli, Global Studies, 3.95 (second consecutive year on All-Academic Excellence Team)
Vika Shevchenko, Gr., Troy, Mich., Exercise and Sport Science, 3.80 (second straight year on All-Academic Excellence squad after two years on the All-Academic team)
Mehreen Siddiqui, Jr., Canton, Mich. / Salem, Biochem & Chem Bio Honors, 4.00 (second consecutive year on All-Academic Excellence Team)

All five members also garnered CSC Academic All-District honors, while Galfalvy and Mancini both competed at the NCAA Championships.
